Study: 98% of Small Businesses Not Mobile-Ready

It seems that small- and medium-sized businesses still aren’t jumping on the mobile bandwagon. According to a study just released by vSplash, an unbelievable 98% of SMB websites are not mobile optimized.

What does this mean for them? Simple. They’re missing out on a massive amount of traffic coming from mobile devices and potentially losing business. It’s not unusual for small businesses to be last to adopt emerging technology. We saw a similar story in the Web boom of the late 90s, so it’s not surprising that we’re seeing this now. The problem is that the consumer adoption of mobile is taking off much quicker than the Internet boom from a decade ago.

But with the rapid development of technology comes more affordable and more viable options for the local business owner who may not know how to go mobile. Gone are the days of hiring expensive designers and developers. If a local business owner has a desktop website, DudaMobile gives them an easy way to go mobile. So we say…no excuses! Just enter your desktop website to go mobile now.

  1. Although 98% is a huge number, it does not surprise me at all. Unfortunately most SMBs are working with poorly designed websites that do not perform, and do not see the value in doing a mobile website also.

The SMB industry has been under assault for many years from scammers, and quick buck artists and have become numb to the next big thing (even though this really is). Every day they are inundated with emails and phone calls touted the latest greatest secret to Internet success. Trust is a major player here.

I always look at analytics before i talk about mobile with a client and show them proof of the traffic. Unfortunately, most website designers do not even provide SMBs with analytics, and they have no clue regarding the growing demand for mobile friendly websites.

As a 16 year Internet Marketer, I agree 100% that consumer adoption is outpacing SMB awareness.

Although it is a slow process, eventually SMBs will realize that a huge portion of their traffic is coming via mobile phones and will have to build one. I also agree that DudaMobile gives SMBs an affordable and easy way to go mobile. Patience is a virtue!
